Treasure Delegate Council - Selection (2024-2025)

Summary

Pursuant to TIP-45: Forming the Treasure Delegate Council (TDC) that was ratified on October 28, 2024, the DAO has opted for the Treasure core contributor team to select all three (3) members of the TDC. After considerable deliberation, the following TDC members have been selected (more detailed rationale below):

  1. Pepperoni Jo3 (Joe) (maintained seat)
  2. Smol Phil (Phil) (maintained seat)
  3. Flook (new addition)

Selected TDC Members

We had five total nominations to join the TDC, with four comprising existing governance council members (formerly part of the ARC). With TIP-45 reducing the number of council member seats from five to three in response to feedback from the community, unfortunately, this meant that not all nominations as well as prior members of the ARC could serve.

In general, the Treasure core team prioritized the following qualities and experience as part of the selection process to assemble a strong, competent and diverse team:

  • Has differentiated, individual experience spikes across core domains (eg. consumer/gaming, governance, and other key web3 aspects such as DeFi). Taken in aggregate, all three members of the TDC should form a powerful mosaic of knowledge and experience to enable a wide range of coverage while also remaining laser-focused on Treasure’s core areas of focus within ZK Nation.
  • Has the ability to lead, take ownership, and be autonomous. All while being able to serve as an extension to the core Treasure team and represent the entire ecosystem.
  • Has a strong connection and reputation with the Treasure ecosystem, and able to represent the best interests of the community, game builders, developers, and core team.
  • Has the sufficient bandwidth and capacity to meaningfully participate, and will not drop the ball.
  • Gives a shit about the overall success of Treasure.

We had a great set of nominations which made this decision very difficult.

However, we’re excited to share that Pepperoni Jo3, Smol Phil, and Flook (in no particular order) have been selected to represent TreasureDAO’s interests within the ZK Nation as the inaugural members of the TDC:

  1. Pepperoni Jo3 (Joe) - Joe has emerged as the defacto governance leader within the ARC, and has made invaluable contributions in standing up the external governance function (eg. representing TreasureDAO within Arbitrum), professionalizing it, and driving both the strategy and day-to-day operations. We would go as far as saying in saying the success we have seen to-date would not have been possible within Joe. Beyond this, Joe has an intimate understanding of Treasure’s mission and strategy as co-founder of r3gen (the DAO’s financial operations service provider), and we believe he will continue to play an important role in the TDC’s success.
  2. Smol Phil (Phil) - As an early member of the Treasure community (since inception and our fair launch), Phil’s formal engagement in the DAO has long preceded the ARC (and now TDC). His proactivity, engagement within TreasureDAO’s own governance process (drafting and proposing his own set of Treasure Improvement Proposals), and active participation within the ARC demonstrates well Phil’s commitment to the Treasure community. Phil’s vantage point as an independent community member is invaluable to enrich the makeup of what is, by design, a diverse council while also maintaining continuity of this governance-focused, community-led council.
  3. Flook (Adam) - Otherwise known as the co-founder of Knights of the Ether, Adam needs no introduction at Treasure as the lead behind one of our longest standing games. Outside of this though, Adam has built up quite a reputation for himself as a major participant within Arbitrum DAO and one of the first democratically elected participants to drive the gaming domain under Questbook. Between his work on gaming and governance, this will be incredibly value-added to not only the TDC but to the rest of TreasureDAO to take his background and experiences, and apply it within ZKsync.

Reminder: Council Term, Compensation, and Responsibilities

Cross-posting from the original TIP-45 post.

TDC Term & Compensation

  • Term Length: TDC, members will serve a 12-month term, ensuring stability and long-term planning in ZKsync governance.
  • Compensation: Council members will receive $3,000 paid in $MAGIC per member per month using spot price at point of payment. They also will have the ability to receive a 50% split of ZKsync delegate incentive for Treasure DAO if such a structure is established. The TDC will have discretion in how to allocate this delegate incentive rewards with oversight by the Treasure Core team. Any Treasure Core team members in the TDC will not be eligible to receive a share of these rewards.

TDC Responsibilities The TDC will focus solely on Treasure DAO’s engagement within the ZK Nation, driving governance participation and advocating for Treasure’s success. Responsibilities are aimed at building impact, fostering public awareness, and driving value for the Treasure community and broader ZK Nation through governance action. Expected responsibilities include:

  • Engagement in ZKsync Governance: The TDC will establish constructive relationships with other large delegates as well as actively participate in governance processes by contributing to and voting on key proposals that impact ZKsync.
  • Proposal Drafting & Policy Advocacy: The TDC will take a proactive role in drafting, advising on, and contributing to, new proposals and advocating for policies that align with Treasure DAO’s interests. This will include refining governance frameworks to benefit both Treasure and the broader ZKsync ecosystem.
  • Representation & Advocacy for Gaming: The TDC will prioritize advocating for gaming-related initiatives by closely collaborating with the Treasure Core team to understand community needs. This will allow the TDC to champion initiatives that directly contribute to the success and growth of the Treasure DAO community within ZKsync.
  • Building Treasure’s Reputation in ZKsync: By consistently representing Treasure DAO’s interests, the TDC will build and enhance Treasure’s reputation, positioning it as a leading voice within the ZKsync governance ecosystem while also growing its voting power over time.
  • Community Engagement & Transparency: The TDC will ensure transparency by hosting regular community calls and issuing regular progress reports. This will keep the community informed about governance activities and foster active participation in the process.
  • Fostering Long-Term Value for Treasure DAO: The TDC will prioritize opportunities that directly contribute to Treasure DAO’s growth and sustainability, ensuring that governance decisions drive long-term value creation within the ZKsync ecosystem.

We expect the TDC to focus on advancing the gaming and consumer domain within the ZKsync ecosystem. Efforts initially will be targeted at establishing a strong governance foundation for ZK Nation as well as a new gaming governance program to enable a competitive edge for the Elastic Chain to become the home of blockchain-enabled gaming.

We also wanted to acknowledge Ali (thechaingamer) and CJ for not only serving within the ARC but also submitting a nomination to continue their participation within the new TDC. Both have made outsized contributions to the ARC’s overall success, and we look forward to continuing to engage with them as long-time and committed members of TreasureDAO. The same note also goes to Jona from Realm who also served on the ARC.

Next Steps

  • Hold the first TDC meeting next week with the newly elected council to align on priorities and responsibilities
  • Execute administrative and operational steps to establish TDC’s newly active presence within ZK Nation:
  • Formalize strategy and goals of the TDC’s participation within ZK Nation, with a plan to issue a formal update to TreasureDAO within the month.

Update on ARC Final Steps

  • In line with TIP-38’s Delegate Incentive Program, 50% of incentives that were received from Arbitrum DAO is set to be distributed to ARC members for their work contributions throughout the term. TreasureDAO received 25,330 ARB for its participation and the ARC is eligible to receive 12,665 of that (50% of the total amount). The ARC has opted to split this evenly across each ARC member to grant 2,533 ARB (x5, 20% of 12,665 each) to Pepperoni Jo3, Smol Phil Jona, Ali, and CJ.
  • Sunset the ARC multisig on Arbitrum One and deprovision access to the “Hats” implementation for the previous five members (as established via TIP-32).
  • On September 26, 2024, Treasure via the ARC issued a post concluding its responsibility and participation within Arbitrum DAO governance.
