SKALE Architecture SKALE’s architecture is designed with a clear vision of fostering Web3 mass adoption. By removing barriers such as gas fees and enhancing network efficiency, SKALE makes blockchain technology more accessible and practical for widespread use. SKALE runs on a decentralized validator network that can limitlessly grow through fractionalization and shared security, creating an infinite linear amount of SKALE chains. SKALE Network leads the AppChain revolution by enabling developers to deploy application-specific chains, known as SKALE Chains, which significantly enhance scalability and transaction speed.
SKALE’s architecture supports a unique Blockchain-as-a-Service model analogous to AWS’s Infrastructure-as-a-Service model. Developers can quickly launch their own SKALE chains with a predictable cost model of a subscription fee paid to validators. This model encourages AppChains for both individual dApps and ecosystems while still eliminating end-user transaction fees. 1. Validator Economics SKALE Network’s validator economics are driven by a Proof-of-Stake (PoS) model, securing the network through independent decentralized global validators. Validators earn rewards through SKALE chain rental Fees and Network Issuance (Token Inflation). Developers rent SKALE chains for their dApps using SKL tokens, which are put into the validator reward pool. The network employs a load utilization curve, balancing supply and demand, affecting dApp fees and incentivizing node expansion. In the SKALE Network’s validator economic model, the cost of renting a SKALE chain for dApps is set at the beginning of the rental period. This structure provides developers with a predictable operational expense (OPEX) that does not fluctuate during the rental term. This predictability is crucial for budgeting and financial planning, as it ensures that the costs associated with using the network remain stable over the agreed rental period.
This structure allows for an efficient use of Validator resources and unlimited horizontal scaling. Validators are not competing with each other to mine blocks, resulting in a faster network.
2. SKALE’s Shared Security SKALE’s shared security model is integral to its robust and efficient network design. This approach involves the random selection of chain validator sets and frequent rotation of nodes, crucial for mitigating risks like collusion and bribery among validators. The SKALE network consists of numerous independent nodes, which, when combined, can support thousands of independent chains, ranging from AppChains to HubChains to EcosystemChains.
A key feature of SKALE’s model is its pooled validation approach. Each validator node in SKALE has significant value staked into the network, enforcing good behavior. In this model, a bad actor would have to bribe two-thirds of the network to successfully attack or compromise the network. This design aligns with preserving the integrity of transactions within each chain.
Furthermore, SKALE utilizes Ethereum’s mainnet for staking and other critical operations, enhancing the security of its scaling infrastructure. The network’s operation is decentralized, with nodes independently organizing themselves and using algorithms and smart contracts on the Ethereum Mainnet to determine their assignments. This decentralized but coordinated approach ensures the robustness and trustworthiness of the SKALE network.

3. Enhanced User Experience - ZERO Gas Fees SKALE Network’s zero gas fee model dramatically enhances user experience and opens new creative avenues for developers. By adopting a subscription model, similar to AWS, developers can pay a flat monthly fee for their own SKALE chain.
