This proposal is made to poll the DAO members’ opinion on halting BW emissions in favor of the Treasure Chain. This means all emissions will be stopped as soon as possible and we will have to look towards a solution for APs won during the Zee harvester event and any BW assets that will no longer be used in a future version of BW.
Rationale
- The harvester emissions have been dwindling over time, the way this has been solved is by having an eversmaller amount of $magic being able to be staked. This increasingly creates two groups of people, the harvester lords and the working-class questers/crafters. What we want to do is have more people join the Treasure ecosystem, not fewer, and so this system is counterproductive to the goal Treasure is trying to reach.
- The harvesters are very passive and don’t require any gameplay. Almost all of the gameplay done can be bought, especially the most time intensive gameplay (Treasure Triad).
- The recent Zeeverse doomsday event hasn’t gone all too well. The most problematic thing that rings through in my mind is the fact that all Harvesters have ‘hired’ players from the Zeeverse community to fight for them. This means BW ‘players’ aren’t actually players, but just managers who hire Zeeverse community members to give them a small share of their profits (that come from their emissions in the harvesters).
All of the emissions of BW flow to the harvesters, yet harvester participants are an ever-smaller population within BW that isn’t required to do any of the hard work within BW and can hire others to fight for them in the most recent harvester war. In other words, the gameplay has increasingly been pulled out of BW compared to the collective Atlas Mine to keep BW asset prices up at the cost of daily active users. This is an unsustainable model, and with the testnet being very close, we have an option to divert the emissions from BW to a more egalitarian and inviting staking system.
I also have to note that I have thought about BW being halted for a pretty long time, although mostly having been against because of how it would impact BW assets. I have now changed my opinion, and think that going forward with a system of emissions that clearly doesn’t work and has no future should be stopped sooner rather than later. A BridgeWorld 2.0 team has been set up, and I am very confident that this will be a great game.
As final reference and recent discussion I would like to mention smol brains, there has been an argument by someone that the game should only be playable by people who have a smol (gating it just like the harvesters are gated). An argument to which I think almost everyone would agree is: ‘That’s a surefire way to kill a game. Gate it to a few thousand holders, half of whom don’t even play games’, which gave me eery BW vibes. Smolbound will be great because it will be accessible and revenue can be made from it, because it’s a good game. BW 2.0 will be similarly good, as are a lot of other Treasure eco games.
